BOOK SUMMARY

Amber Bardan returns with a heart-stopping third installment in her high-octane, highly addictive Bad For You series

A fling with her best friend's reclusive business partner should've been harmless.

When Emma meets him, the only way she's looking to be tied down is in the literal sense. But Avner—shady hacker, off-the-books investigator, occasional spy—takes her breath away. He's the first man who doesn't turn to mush under her sexual spell: a fact that makes what's between them very different, and very real.

Beautiful and uninhibited, Emma is everything Avner thought she would be and more. Yet his deadly past and dark duties can never be forgotten…not even as he succumbs to their seductive intimacy. But for the first time he's after something of his own, as well.

And now that he's found Emma, he'll protect her, no matter what. Because anything worth loving is worth fighting for.

But nothing about Avner is remotely harmless.

Soon, Avner has infiltrated Emma's personal life, stalled her career and nearly destroyed everything she's worked for—all in the name of protection. Desperate and heartbroken, drawn into a secret criminal underworld in her quest for understanding, Emma discovers the truth: Avner's secrets are far more devastating than his lies.

One-click with confidence. This title is part of the Carina Press Romance Promise: all the romance you're looking for with an HEA/HFN. It's a promise!

EXCERPT
“You’re breathing fast.” The sun hit his face, turning his shrewd eyes deep amber and gold. “What are you afraid of?”
My nails scraped the underside of the ledge.
I didn’t glance at the water, the greater of the two things that right then truly scared me. “You’re all wet.” I raised a hand I wished were steady and set it on his broad shoulder.
“You’re very—” my touch smoothed over his slippery skin “—very sexy, all wet, Avner. That’s why I’m breathing fast.”
His nostrils flared a fraction. “That’s a reason.” His grip tightened on my thighs. He pulled me closer, and claimed the space between my knees for his own. “But we both know that it’s not the only one.”
My breath caught. I grabbed both his shoulders.
“Do you always flirt with fear, or only with me?” He dragged my hips. My ass scraped on tiles through my bikini briefs, and my heart knocked against my ribs.
“What are you talking about?”
He slid me a little more. One more inch and I could slip right into the pool. But his arms came around me, and he lifted me against him. My chest slid over his. I wrapped my legs around his waist, and clung. Water lapped around my calves—my knees.
His mouth pressed into my hair as though he were telling a secret. “Does it turn you on to be a little bit afraid?”
Adrenaline plowed through me, lifting my stomach like a theme-park ride, making my lips tingle, and fingers shake.
“I’ve asked myself why.” He grabbed my ass and stepped back from the edge. I held on, my entire body pulsing with electric buzz. “Why does this woman who resists me, also lure me?” His words pierced through the howl of blood in my ears. “Why does she look at me like she’s in the middle of the dream, when she also trembles against me?”
Water climbed around us, moving toward my waist. I clutched him with the full force of my muscles. My head spun. I breathed into the feeling of something between panic and delirium.
His breath poured in a hot, hoarse whisper. “Why does she struggle, when she’s wettest when I hold her down?”
I twitched. My back met a solid force. The other side of the pool. I reached behind me with one arm for the ledge, but hung on to Avner with my other.
With that space between us, I saw his face, impassioned so fiercely he could’ve been angry—chin low, gaze hooked on me.
He wasn’t done with whatever he was doing. “You came to the edge, and I saw right here—” he released one hand from my waist and touched the base of my neck “—your heart pounding like it were about to break through skin.”
My pulse leaped against his touch, leaving no doubt he’d detect every little variation in the beat.
“The same way it did in Italy when you’d step out onto a balcony. Yet, you lean over railings and dip your toes anyway.” He moved, his touch circling my throat, baring me back against the edge. “Just like you come after me.”
My head swirled, woozily and not so different to when I’d been drugged. His voice moved through me, through my memory, tempting out flashes of things—like the first time I’d turned up to a fight. Took a punch. A real punch designed to knock me down. The first punch that hadn’t been from my father. How my blood trembled, scared yes, but alight with exhilaration. Because I chose it and owned it.
He drove his big hard body against mine. “You’re afraid because I’m stronger than you and that turns you on.”  He squeezed—just enough for the pressure to flare without choking. “You’re scared right now, that I could drop you…”
My eyes flared, heart stopped, breath vanished.
“But you know I’ve got you.” He released my throat.
I didn’t fall. Not with his body holding me up. I’d never fall with Avner. That’s why he was the first time I’d taken a risk on a man.
My chest constricted—hard.
“And now we both know why you’re here.” He tugged at my hair, jerking my head back, but I could hardly see him through the building sheen. “I’m your darkest desire.”
I shuddered, shivered, shook, but couldn’t deny it.
He was the fantasy I never let myself have—dangerous and safe.
Attentive and possessive.
Frightening and irresistible.
“I’m your darkest desires, Emma, and I intend to fulfill them all.”

CAT'S REVIEW
"Don't Lie to Me" by Amber Bardan is one heck of a ride!  Emma, looking for some fun, meets Avner and decides that he'll be her fun.  Well, the sparks ignite and it's so much more.  But both characters have pasts that will threaten them.  Can they overcome?  Read it and find out!  Emma is a strong heroine that truly just wants to be loved and cherished but feels that is beyond her reach.  Avner is the ultimate Alpha and boy, is he sexy!  Ms. Bardan has once again written a tale that has it all - there is mystery and intrigue, love and romance, sex and heat.  While this is not a sweet and cutesy read, it certainly got my attention from the start and never let go.  This is book three of the series, although I don't think it is absolutely necessary to read the first two, I would highly recommend them.  Ms. Bardan has a knack of reaching into the reader's mind and taking them on a rollercoaster ride that is thrills galore.      (received copy for honest review)

CAT'S REVIEW
"The Color of a Christmas Miracle" by Julianne MacLean.  Well, I've said it before and I'll say it again, Ms. MacLean is one heck of writer and once again, captured my heart and soul with this one.  Throughout, my heart filled with joy and then cried in pain.  We follow Claire's journey in this story.  I'll be honest, there were a few times I didn't care for Claire as I thought she came across a bit selfish, yet it was also understandable.  However, as time passes and Claire lives through her ups and downs, I really just wanted to reach through the pages and offer her a hug.   The writing style of Ms. MacLean keeps the reader engaged and guessing at times.  I couldn't put the book down until I knew what the outcome was or else I'd never be able to concentrate on other tasks.  When I review a story, I decide on the star rating based on my feelings during and after the read.  Well, Ms. MacLean deserves this 5 star rating as this story hasn't left my heart or mind since finished.  It is filled with love, sadness, happiness and several twists and turns I didn't see coming.  Thank you, Ms. MacLean, for another delightful read.  I cannot wait for the next!  (received copy from the author for an honest review)

EXCERPT
When she reached the door, she pulled her fingers through her blond hair, and decided her visitor had earned the penalty of seeing her sloppy hair, leftover makeup, and pale blue flannel pajamas with a polar bear and snowflake design.
She turned the knob and blinked, stunned.
Holy crap, there is a mountain man at my door.
She was faced with wide, round shoulders. A waterfall of caramel-brown, slightly wavy hair cascaded down his arms. He wore a closely trimmed beard, his mouth flat beneath it. One eyebrow was arched over the bluest eyes she’d ever seen.
“Hello,” she managed, before jerking her gaze from his assaulting blues to take in the fitted cream-colored sweater, a pair of gray cargo pants, and laced leather boots.
He was like a sexy city lumberjack.
“Hi.”
Oh. That voice. Deep, rich, and low enough that it registered in her belly.
When his eyes dashed away from her face and he smiled, her brain turned to mush. She couldn’t think of a thing to say. Not a single thing.
“There he is. Hey, buddy.” The giant knelt as Adonis meandered through the living room, pausing to do a downward-dog stretch in front of the man’s feet. The dog received a scrub on the head, and she was rewarded with more of her guest’s low voice. “You’re better today, yeah? Sleep okay?”
Meanwhile, Rachel gawked at the two of them. Her appearance was probably less put-together than the dog’s. She ran her fingers through her hair again, making it worse at this point, and straightened her pajama top futilely. There was no escaping that she looked as if she’d crawled out of bed after a late, late night.
The man stood. “Typically, Adonis has had his walk by now, but I didn’t see you at the elevator, so…”
She squinted one eye and finally her brain chugged into gear.
Oh. Oh.
Oliver had mentioned a dog walker, but Rachel had sworn he said he’d postponed the walks while she was staying here. But since he was here, he may as well take Adonis. She wasn’t anywhere near ready to go for a stroll in the snow.
“I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” She went to where the leash was hanging—on a hook inside the pantry—retrieved it, and chased Adonis for a few irritating seconds while he turned in circles in excitement. “I took him out at three in the morning, so I’m not sure if he’ll have to…you know.” Dog clipped, she handed the leash to the ridiculously good-looking man at her door. “Do you bring your own poop bags? Or do you…” The man was looking at her like she’d sprouted a third eye, so she swept the topic away with one hand. “You know what? I’ll just grab one.”
She shot him a tight smile, went back to the pantry, and returned with a bag made for Adonis’s business. She offered it to the guy, who was holding tight to Adonis’s leash while the pooch lunged for the elevator. The man didn’t budge, despite the dog’s strength.
“Where’s Oliver?” he asked.
She frowned as she crinkled the plastic bag against her body. “You mean he didn’t tell you? He’s on a business trip. I’m housesitting.”
“You his niece?” he asked after running a long gaze down then up to her face again.
She laughed. “No, not at all. He’s one of my regulars. Odd, right? But we hit it off and he likes me, so…”
The man’s frown deepened, those gorgeous eyes darkening to stormy blue. “I’m not the dog walker.” He offered the leash but Adonis stayed in the hallway rather than coming back inside. “I’m an upstairs neighbor.”
“Oh. Oh my God! I’m so sorry!” Rachel took the leash and wrestled with Adonis, who was much, much stronger than she. He knew it. The dog spread his feet wide and stood his ground on the carpeted floor.
“I suggest you find a way to keep him quiet at night while you’re out. I work from home and I can’t listen to him bark for hours.”
Hours?
“If I were anyone else, a noise complaint would be in your future. Oliver follows the rules. He wouldn’t like knowing you’re breaking a big one.” That low voice had dropped lower, the reprimand having the dual result of both pissing her off and making her feel a little tingly.
God. I need more sleep.
“No need to be rude,” she snapped. He blinked, surprised. Probably not used to being put in his place.
Look at him. He’s a wall. Who would stand up to him?
Then she remembered his kind smile, the way his hands rubbed Adonis’s flank with rugged gentleness. A shiver climbed her spine at the same time Adonis jerked hard on the leash.
She expelled a dainty “oh!” and lunged forward at the same time the man in the doorway caught the leash in one hand and her against him. Rachel found every part of her from thighs to breasts plastered to the giant’s body. Her palms flattened over two hard pectoral muscles hidden beneath the sweater, her legs bumping his legs, which felt as solid as two marble columns. She tilted her head, met those aqua blue eyes and…and…remembered she hadn’t brushed her teeth yet.
She shoved off his rock-hard stomach, slapping a palm over her mouth. Then she gave a hard tug to Adonis’s leash, who turned with a sigh and paced back inside. Once he was clear of the door, she sent the hard-bodied hunk at the threshold a glare and slammed the door in his face.
Adonis yipped his disappointment at losing the chance to go outside.
“You’ll have to take him out now!” came a shout through the door. “Don’t blue-ball the poor guy after taking him halfway.”
Adonis wagged his tail so hard, he nearly took out a lamp. The hulk at the door was right. There was no way she could turn down the Dane’s pale eyes and smiling pink mouth, perked pointy ears, and lolling tongue.
“Fine,” she growled and stomped for the bedroom. She snatched up her boots and hastily picked out her clothes, feeling both tired and cranky. Yet as she tugged on her coat, she found her mouth curving into a half-smile.
Blue balls.
Who was that guy?

CAT'S REVIEW
"The Billionaire Next Door" by Jessica Lemmon.   What an enjoyable read!  Our main characters, Rachel and Tag, are true and very real.  Rachel, recently hurt, is determined to make it on her own and be independent. I admired her strength and will.  Tag, a sexy bachelor, is so much more than his big and rough exterior alludes to.  He is so sweet and gentle yet strong and smart too.  There certainly are some sparks between these two!  And to watch them both work through those sparks and accompanying feelings was a delight.  This story is fun, the banter delightful and, the characters, including the secondary ones, are real and likable.  Ms. Lemmon has once again written a story that I found easily read and smoothly written.  I definitely recommend this book to all that enjoy a contemporary romance that will leave you with feeling good and with a smile on your face and in your heart.  (received copy for honest review)

Gretchen snorted and looked back at His Royal Gorgeousness. “What is he doing?”
“Juggling?”
Jenny watched, mouth open, as Man-Candy juggled three limes in the air while bending backward, tilting his head enough so that the laughing female bartender could pour a shot directly into his mouth. The crowd gathered around him cheered and he popped back up, still juggling.
“Lime!” he shouted.
The bartender tossed a lime slice into the air and he tried to snatch it with his mouth. And missed. To the disappointment of his groupies.
“Again!” he said.
The bartender grabbed another slice, aimed it carefully, and tossed it in an arc. He staggered backward, keeping the limes in his hands going while he focused on the one falling through the air.
“Incoming,” Gretchen said, getting out of the way of certain disaster as he stumbled toward them, his attention intent on the lime slice.
He caught it in his mouth right as the back of his foot connected with their bench. His limes went flying. And so did he. His butt hit the floor. And his head landed face-up squarely in Jenny’s lap.
She yelped and pressed back against the bench. Little good that did her. She couldn’t really go anywhere with him half-laying on her. Didn’t really want to, if she was honest. He was even hotter closer up. Who was she to turn away a gorgeous man who introduced himself with his face in her lap? That would be rude.
He glanced up, opened his mouth, and smiled, the lime slice wedged firmly between his teeth. His friends cheered again and he held the lime up like a trophy. Then he turned his attention to Jenny.
“Hey, there.” He beamed up at her like she was his new best friend. “Sorry about that. I’m usually a bit more graceful with the party tricks.” He slid off her lap and stood, before holding out a hand to help her up.
“Not a problem,” she said. She glanced at the lime he’d dropped on the table. “That was impressive.”
“Thank you.” He looked her up and down and she shivered as if he’d run his hands over her body. And then she returned the favor, biting her lip as she feasted on the incredible specimen of manhood before her.
He gave her a slow, sensual grin that had her sucking in her breath.
“Interested?” he asked.
Nice line. Short, sexy, and to the point. She approved .“Very. You?”
His eyebrows raised in surprise. Maybe he wasn’t used to women who didn’t play hard to get. Judging by the sudden heat in his eyes, he didn’t mind at all.
“Extremely,” he said. “My place?”
She shook her head. “Dance floor.”
He playfully pouted and it was all she could do to keep from sucking his bottom lip into her mouth.
She laughed. “Sorry. Only dancing tonight.” For now. “Still interested?”
“Definitely,” he said.
He walked backward, keeping his gaze glued to hers while he made his way out to the floor. The crowd parted for him like he was Moses parting the Red Sea.
Jenny took a deep breath to try and calm her frantically pounding heart and leaned over to Gretchen, while still keeping her focus on him.
“Don’t wait up for me.”
Gretchen laughed. “Sorry. If things look like they are getting out of hand, I’m going to come drag you away. If you don’t come home tonight, Rick is going to have a total shit fit. He’ll have half the Hoboken PD out looking for you.”
Jenny’s sigh was full of fondness mixed in with exasperation. She loved Rick, but having a big brother who was a cop took the protective thing to a whole new level.
“You’ve got a point. I’ll try and rein it in, but you might seriously have to come pull me off the dance floor.”
“You really think your self control is that bad?”
“I know it is.” Jenny set her drink down. “He’s hot and I’m bothered and that’s a recipe for disaster. Well, it’s actually a recipe for some insanely hot sex. But I guess having my big brother come kick down the door would sort of put a damper on the mood. And Rick was very specific about me making it back home tonight. Ugh. Fine. I’ll try and keep it in my pants, if I must.”
“You must,” Gretchen said with a wink, heading off to do a little dancing of her own.

CAT'S REVIEW

"Sweetly, Deeply, Absolutely" by Kira Archer.  Jenny and Jared are two young adults looking to enjoy life and each other.  Well, sometimes things don't always go as planned and it was interesting to see how it was handled by both of them.  I liked both characters, although I did find it bit tough to connect with Jenny at first.  As the story progressed, I did grow to like her as I understood her better.  Even so, there were still times I really wanted to shake her.  I liked Jared and found him to be really mature. Oh, and super sexy too.  Together they worked really well.  The chemistry sparked and their interactions were fun.  Ms. Archer writes fluidly and effortlessly.  It was easy to follow along, never wondering where we were or what was happening.   This is a delightful read that was easy on the heart and mind.  It's simply perfect for sitting by the fire, cuddled in your favorite blanket with a cup of hot cocoa type of read.  (received copy for honest review)

We step forward at the same time, and he presses his rough hand to my cheek. “I don’t know what kind of pussies you went out with before, but I wanted to fucking claim you in there.”

He slides a hand around my waist, tugging our bodies together. I feel every hard inch of him, and he’s got me so hot I’m sure we’re going to combust.

“I’ve spent almost nine years hiding who I am, and I’m not willing to do it anymore,” he says through clenched teeth. “Not here, where I came to start over. Where I came to live on my terms without the goddamn military hanging over my head.”

“I have no interest in hiding,” I assure him.

“You’re sure? Because I really want to kiss you right now, and I don’t care who sees us.”

I respond by pulling his mouth to mine, my break from men long forgotten. We stumble backward, crashing into the railing, fighting for dominance as we did yesterday morning. The passion between us has a life of its own. My hands claw over his ass, up his back. I want to strip him down and take all of him. I want to discover why he’s so rough and learn what about those shadows that are lurking behind his gorgeous eyes. Instead I take, and give, and take more of the angry kisses. When we finally tear our mouths apart, my body’s still reeling, and we both curse under our breaths.

“Okay?” he pants out.

I nod, knowing if I open my mouth, I want to fuck you, is going to come out.

CAT'S REVIEW
"Tempting Tristan" by Melissa Foster.  Well, what can I say?  Ms. Foster has once again written a tale that is emotionally gripping yet sweet and tender.   Our main characters, Tristan and Alex are about as swoon worthy as a male can get!  They are both now high up on my book boyfriend list! (yes, even though they are gay!)  Tristan, having gone through a recent breakup, is wary to give his heart away.  Alex, recently out of the military, is finally able to be his true self yet is fearful due to the scars that being in the military has caused - both physical and emotional.  What they cannot deny are the sparks flying and the connection that is astounding.  I adored how these two cherished each other and supported one another.  It was such a pleasure watching the love grow between them.  Of course, there are obstacles along the way, but such is life.  Ms. Foster has written a beautiful love story that encompasses the true meaning of a soul mate and true love.  The only small drawback I found was the switching between the two characters' POV.  While I do enjoy stories that use this technique, sometimes it was switched quite often and I would have to check to see which was speaking/thinking.  Despite that, "Tempting Tristan" has become one of my favorites that I will certainly re-read and recommend it over and over.  (received copy for honest review)
